LOOK: From Innovation to Performance

Founding and Early Innovations

Founded in 1951 in Nevers, France, LOOK initially specialized in manufacturing ball bladders, frames, and components for high-end racing bikes. Jean BEYL, the founder and a passionate skier, dramatically influenced the company’s trajectory. In 1960, a skiing accident led him to innovate in the world of sports equipment. From his hospital bed, he identified a critical flaw in traditional ski bindings that contributed to his injury and resolved to create a revolutionary solution.

The Birth of a Revolution

Jean BEYL’s determination led to the invention of the plated ski binding known as the ‘anti-fracture.’ This innovation marked a significant shift in sports equipment, particularly benefiting road cycling. The new binding provided enhanced protection and performance, setting a new standard in the industry.

The First Pivot Binding

In 1963, LOOK introduced its first pivot binding, the ‘N17,’ which offered unparalleled levels of safety and performance. This breakthrough cemented LOOK’s reputation as a pioneer in sports equipment innovation and set the foundation for future advancements in cycling technology.
